Macedon Ridge
Macedon Ridge
After an extensive five year search for an ideal viticultural site, we purchased Macedon Ridge in 2001. Established in 1985 with the classical Champagne varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the vineyard had fallen into disrepair and needed attention. Seeing beyond this we realized we were standing in an ideal location for the production of sparkling wine. Elevated cool climate conditions, reliable rainfall, free draining red volcanic soils and a protected north facing aspect presented a canvas that with careful management could produce wines rich in character.
The stunning geography was enhanced by closely planted narrow vine rows orientated north-south and by training the developing shoots in a vertical position the bunches could be kept separate allowing adequate air flow and mottled sunlight to penetrate evenly over the whole bunch. The maturing fruit ripens slowly and consistently developing aromas and flavours rich in characteristics which are further enhanced by heightened acidity from the cool evening conditions. The resultant wines are made in the traditional manner and given extended time on lees building additional layers of complexity and texture.
Today our family owned and operated vineyard produces a range of estate grown sparkling wines that display depth of flavour and drinkability and our ambition is for the subtleties, complexity and finesse achieved to reflect the interaction of the vineyard and season in which they are produced.
